NBN Story Feature

Recently we announced that we had connected the first end user in new rollout area Coffs Harbour NSW.

To celebrate going live with NBN services, locals were invited along to the Coffs Harbour Showground for a unique performance and singing lesson from multi‐award winning Opera Australia soprano Taryn Fiebig. Locals were treated to a number of different songs and a group of young students from the Coffs Harbour Conservatorium of music were put through their paces by the Soprano, running through a set of opera scales streamed live in High Definition from the iconic Sydney Opera House across an NBN‐enabled two‐way video conferencing link.

The Hon Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, was on hand to welcome guests to the Showgrounds. After watching and listening to the students participate in the singing lesson, Senator Conroy spoke of the opportunities that high definition video conferencing over theNBN opens up for greater participation in the Arts. "As parents, we all want our kids to have access to the best teachers in Australia – or even in the world. With the National Broadband Network, whether you live in Sydney or Melbourne, or in the most remote part of Australia, it will be possible to access the best specialist teachers, wherever they are. The lesson we have seen delivered today by Taryn Fiebig, iPrimus and Opera Australia over the NBN is just one of many examples of how this state‐of‐the art network will open up the Arts across the board for future generations."

Our CEO Geoff Horth added "It's fantastic to be part of this harmonious event with an Australian icon in the Sydney Opera House and such a talent as Taryn, demonstrating the benefits of High Definition video over the NBN. This is the second time in as many weeks that we have had the primary connection in a new NBN enabled area and we look forward to bringing the benefits of our experience to bear in helping the Coffs Harbour community to leverage the opportunities presented by ultra fast broadband."
