Primus ISDN 10/20/30 Overview

Primus is a leading provider of independent ISDN services in the Australian Market. Primus ISDN 10/20/30 provides quality voice, data and video carriage services to business customers in the major cities using the Primus carrier grade ATM network.

Primus ISDN 10/20/30 provides ISDN Primary Rate services to businesses with quality voice carriage at a fraction of the price of traditional providers.

ISDN can be used for a range of voice, data and video plus image transfer applications including:

Telephony
Most importantly, ISDN provides a clear, high quality telephone connection. In conjunction with digital telephones, small phone systems and PABX systems, ISDN offers a range of additional call and messaging features that are not available with analogue telephone services.
Data transfer
ISDN provides data call capabilities for wide area network (WAN) applications and is an ideal backup link for link failover and redundancy.
Video Conferencing
Live, full colour, two-way video, audio and data communication. Video conferencing equipment ranges in size from desktop systems to large room systems.
Internet access
Fast access to Internet and online services, with the confidence that you can still receive or make calls.

Today, many of the data applications of ISDN have been superseded by newer broadband technologies, such as ADSL, but ISDN is still the mainstay of business telephone services due to its quality, wide availability and broad array of compatible equipment.

FAQ’s

What is ISDN?
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a telecommunication system for digital phone connections, which has been available worldwide for 25 years. Integrated Services refers to ISDN's ability to deliver up to 30 simultaneous connections, in any combination of data, voice, video, and fax, over a single transmission line. Voice and data is delivered over ISDN via bearer channels (B channels). Each B channel provides a bandwidth of 64kbps. ISDN is delivered to customers via either a Basic Rate Access (BRA) or a Primary Rate Access (PRA). BRA consists of 2 B channels, while PRA consists of 30 B channels. PRA is typically delivered to the customer in lots of 10, 20 or 30 channels, although the 30 channels can be made available once the service is installed.

Where is Primus ISDN 10/20/30 available?
Primus ISDN is available in the metropolitan areas of Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and is also available on the Gold Coast and some regional locations.

What is the lead time for installation?
The standard lead time is 34 working days, excluding public holidays. Lead time commences once the application for ISDN has been accepted by Primus.

What equipment do I need?
If you already have a primary rate ISDN service from another provider, then you almost certainly have everything you need. Otherwise, the following is required:

  • ISDN compatible phone system (e.g. PABX) that can plug directly into the Primus NTU (NT1).
  • Computer equipment may require either an ISDN Terminal Adaptor or an ISDN PC Card to be wired between the NT1 and the computer.
  • All equipment connected to the ISDN network must be ACA approved. Equipment used with Primus ISDN services must be compatible with the ETSI ISDN or TS014 standards.
