Primus Secure DSL

Overview

What is Secure DSL?

A broadband (DSL) connection provides “always-on” high-speed Internet connectivity that has shaped the way businesses use the Internet. However with this connectivity also comes risk, so businesses use firewalls and anti-virus programs to protect themselves from malicious activity.

This equipment can be very costly and complex to understand, install and maintain; yet the responsibility for this equipment normally rests with the buyer of the Internet Service.

Primus has changed that now with the introduction of Secure DSL.

Primus has embedded a firewall, anti-virus/anti-spam filters and web filtering within our network so that the Internet connection you receive from us is already protected.

How does it work?

Primus has installed sophisticated IT security systems from Check Point Software Technologies and Trend Micro. This technology is normally only available to major corporations and allows us to give each Primus customer the highest level of protection at a fraction of the cost. Customers that subscribe to this service have all their Internet traffic redirected through this IT security system without slowing down your connection.

Email traffic can be redirected through our market leading anti-virus and anti-spam service using the latest IT security technologies from Trend Micro, trapping viruses, spam and Trojans long before they ever reach your business.

What are the benefits?

Cost Savings

Right now your business pays for all the Internet traffic that reaches your site regardless of whether that traffic is wanted or not. That means your business will reach its monthly allowance much quicker and could incur excess charges.

By using the Primus Secure DSL product, that traffic is stopped within our network so it never counts towards your allowance, saving you money on excess download charges and allowing you to download more of the information your business actually wants.

Best in Class

The Primus DSL service uses equipment that is used by very large corporations and represents the best technology available in the world today. Check Point Software Technologies and Trend Micro are leaders in IT Security and are bringing their technology within reach of small business through this service.

Truly Simplifying Security

The best aspect of the Primus Secure DSL service is that we do all the work for you. Installing and configuring security equipment is a complex, time consuming process. Even once it’s installed it needs to be constantly updated to account for changes in your network or new threats from outside. The one time you forget to apply any updates is almost guaranteed to be the time you get an attack.

We manage the equipment on a 24 x 7 basis, applying patches and updates within minutes of them being released.

Service Options

The Primus Secure DSL service comes in four main versions depending on your specific network requirements.

Base Service

This is the typical service for most customers where the connection is usually used as general Internet access. These customers don’t have their own Web or Email Server on site.

Professional Service

This service is for customers hosting a Web or Email server on their site and need to allow certain types of traffic through.

Professional Service with Web Filtering

This service is the same as the Professional Service with the addition of web filtering for pre-selected categories such as gaming and pornography.

Email Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam

This service can be combined with any of the Secure DSL services listed above and provides real-time Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam on a per domain or sub-domain basis up to 100 email accounts per service.

All pricing is based on the speed of your connection and in the case of Anti-Virus/Anti-Spam the number of domains you have. For pricing details contact Primus on xxxxxxx.

FAQ

Are their any special requirements to get this service?
Primus will need to issue you with a new modem and IP address to obtain this service. Otherwise as long as you can receive DSL, we can provide this service.

Can I configure the firewall to suit my own requirements?
No you can’t. The service is based on the most common requirements for small business where customisation typically isn’t required. If you need to customise the firewall then you’ll need a dedicated firewall device instead. Primus can assist you with this.

Will I be 100% protected?
No security solution anywhere in the world can offer 100% protection. New viruses and hacking techniques are created every day and while we can respond quickly to new threats, there is always a lag time. This is the same whether you use the Primus Secure DSL service or do your own customised IT security.

Can I trial the service to make sure it will work for me?
Primus offers a 3-month free trial for customers. You can cancel anytime up to the end of the trial and pay nothing.

I configure the web filter to suit my needs?
No you can’t. The service is based on the most common requirements for small business where customisation typically isn’t required. If you need to customise the web filtering then you’ll need a dedicated web filtering device or software instead.

Is there a minimum term I have to commit to?
There are no minimum terms for the IT security service as it is sold as an add-on to an existing DSL connection. Minimum terms may apply to your DSL connection.

I already have a firewall and/or an anti-virus program – do I still need this service?
The best IT security strategies use multiple devices to provide overlapping protection. The Primus Secure DSL service will work in conjunction with existing firewalls and anti-virus software providing extra protection and more importantly stop traffic before it gets to your site, saving you money. Having additional devices on your site gives you extra protection from threats that might enter your network from other sources such as memory sticks, DVD/CD’s or floppy disks.

Are there any limitations on using the Internet with this service?
Typically all web browsing will work as normal. The firewall is set up to stop traffic that comes directly from the Internet without you first requesting it. This provides the best protection but it means some applications may not work. If you have a concern about a specific application being blocked by the service, talk to a Primus sales engineer who can provide specific advice.
