Armidale NBN launch Source: Louise Donges – Rural press

The NBN Mainland rollout was officially launched on the 18th of May in Armidale NSW by the Prime Minister of Australia, and other Ministers, along with the CEO of NBNco Mike Quigley.

This was the official switch on (yes there was a big button!) turning on the NBN for Mainland Australia.

As iPrimus is one of the first release providers of the NBN, we were there, displaying some of the benefits of the NBN. We chose to show how far video conferencing has progressed, and how good it can look using the NBN in Armidale. We had our 100/40mbit connection, connecting to our Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth offices, along with our camera in Times Square in New York, all running at the same time at 1080p Full HD.

We expect that many hospitals, schools and businesses will in the coming years with the speed of the NBN, take up video conferencing, as part of the reason for the NBN is to bring people closer, and connect us all in new ways. Seeing your friends, family, teachers, or doctors all in broadcast quality video is going to change the way a lot of people live, especially in regional areas.

For iPrimus, everything went to plan and went off without a hitch. The PM spoke to employees in our Melbourne and Sydney offices, and we met up with some of our customers in Armidale, including the two-year old son of one of our NBN customers, who decided to see what happened if he hit the button – would it switch the NBN back off? (No, it didn't!)

Whitelion Bail out

Our General Manager of Consumer has been locked up… that's right he's stepped into the shoes of a young person that has been disconnected from our community due to abuse and neglect, drug addiction and poverty to help raise money for Whitelion, a not-for-profit community organisation that supports and empowers young people at risk to reach their full potential.
