Primus Customers Stay Online During National Internet Outage
29th February 2012 – Melbourne, Australia - Primus, part of M2 Telecommunications Group Ltd (“M2” ASX: MTU) today announced thanks to its robust network design and redundancy, its IP network didn’t skip a beat and its own customers stayed on line during last Thursdays national internet outage that reportedly saw millions of customers left without a workable service for approximately 45mins.
Primus customers were able to stay on line because Primus’ network uses diverse routes in connection with its international traffic via a combination of its own peering relations throughout and within Australia for peer-to-peer termination and terminates this traffic via diverse routing through the USA, Japan and Singapore.
“It was business as usual for Primus. Our team saw the issue as it developed and were able to get in front of it with ease. Unlike many other service providers, our network doesn’t rely on one supplier to keep our customers connected. Instead we use multiple connections to ensure that our customers are always ‘on’.
“Australian customers are very limited for choice when it comes to diverse communications paths so we are naturally proud of our diverse routes and termination points and it’s why so many customers buy from Primus,” said Group General Manager Network Operations/Planning, Arne Bergquist.
